October 9 – 12, 2018: Laboratory professionals and researchers from eleven institutes across Pakistan, specifically from Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Islamabad attended two consecutive bio-waste management workshops at the Center for Excellence in Molecular Biology (CEMB), University of the Punjab, Lahore. These workshops were organized in collaboration with CEMB, Gull’s Association, and HSP in an effort to train both laboratory personnel and house keeping staff on proper bio-waste management practices.
While the first workshop was devoted to awareness raising, and included discussions on solid waste management processes with hands-on trainings, the second workshop focused more specifically on waste management during emergency responses. Following these training sessions, participants returned to their laboratories and developed standard operating procedures (SOPs) for bio-waste handling processes. Workshop organizers and biosafety experts will review these SOPs and offer feedback for improvement during a third and final session of the series.
Thank you to the Center for Excellence in Molecular Biology, University of Punjab, Lahore and Gull’s Association for helping to organize these critically important workshops!
