HSP Continues To Support Afghanistan’s Veterinary Laboratories’ Biorisk Management Expansion By Holding A Second Virtual Workshop
Recently, HSP held a virtual workshop with eighteen staff members from Afghanistan’s Central Veterinary and Diagnostic Research Laboratory (CVDRL), to conduct a biorisk management refresher training. The participants were divided into two cohorts and received the training either on February 13-15, 2021 or February 16-18, 2021.
This training builds upon a previous virtual workshop that HSP held in January for Afghanistan’s regional veterinary labs. During the workshop, CVDRL employees assessed their laboratory using the FAO Biosafety and Biosecurity Tool, as well as the updated National Laboratory Biosafety Handbook, which includes standard operating procedures. The lab’s personnel also discussed concerns surrounding COVID-19, like the need for more bio-containment and expressed the desire to modify policies for the duration of the pandemic.
Our Afghan partners, including the Director of Animal Health, continue to support this training and were pivotal in allowing the training to occur because they had to change government policies to allow virtual trainings.
