HSP and the BioRisk Association of the Philippines Successfully Cohosted the First Event in a Three-Phased Training on Biosecurity Risk Assessment and Mitigation

On July 20th, Health Security Partners and the BioRisk Association of the Philippines (BRAP2015) cohosted the first event in a three-phased training on biosecurity risk assessment and mitigation. Seventeen participants from Philippine laboratories handling high consequence pathogens gathered virtually to kick-off the three-day workshop. Lecturers covered the basics of biorisk management systems, the importance of biosafety and biosecurity, threat identification, and biosecurity plans during the workshop. Participants engaged in the workshop with lively discussion within breakout rooms as well as with the entire group. Stay tuned for further updates on Phase Two, which is being planned as a much anticipated in-person event for early November of this year, and will focus on training trainers on biosecurity risk assessment and mitigation. The training series will conclude with Phase Three, where participants from one selected laboratory will serve as a model for others by performing a biorisk self-assessment with in-person supervision and mentorship from lead trainers. Overall, this collaboration with BRAP2015 aims to address key gaps in the practice of biosecurity.
