HSP Supports Lab Mentorship Program For Indonesian Military Hospitals

Over the last two weeks, HSP Partners at the University of Indonesia (UI) and IPB Universityhave hosted a lab mentorship program on COVID-19 testing for staff from three Indonesian military hospitals. HSP helped setup this program in support of an ongoing, multi-year partnership between the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD)’s Biological Threat Reduction Program (BTRP) and the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI), to build disease detection and Biorisk Management capacity at Indonesian military hospitals.

This peer-to-peer mentorship approach was chosen for this training because it is the best way to teach diagnostic techniques and Biorisk management practices. Participants learned to use qPCR for COVID-19 testing, to conduct risk assessments, and to implement biosafety and biosecurity practices in their labs. HSP’s partners will continue to virtually mentor the TNI labs until they are all set to conduct testing in their own labs.
