HSP Welcomes Lauren Williams

HSP welcomes Lauren Williams to the team as Program Operations Manager, where she will help oversee operational and administrative functions as well as execute a range of activities in the grant programs portfolio. She comes to us with nearly ten years of experience managing public health and national security projects and programs for the public, private, and academic sectors.

After completing her M.S. in Public Health Microbiology and Emerging Infectious Diseases from the George Washington University’s School of Public Health, she supported a wide-range of public health activities. At the Association of Public Health Laboratories (APHL), she liaised between state and local public health laboratorians and their Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) counterparts on infectious disease testing issues. She then went to oversee an operational biosurveillance team that tracked and analyzed global human and animal disease events through open source media, followed by co-managing a CDC-funded contract that used health insurance claims data to study vaccine safety issues.

Lauren also brings knowledge of federal regulations and administrative oversight. She spent two years at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), where she facilitated reviews of biological and chemical projects and activities for compliance with relevant treaty regulations and weapons conventions. Most recently, she served as the Director of Operations at the National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism (START) at the University of Maryland where she operationalized a team of 60 full-time faculty working on a $12 million funded research portfolio that examined the social science aspects of terrorism.

Lauren is eager to re-engage on health security issues and contribute to fostering a collaborative and innovative approach to protecting our global community against health threats.
