"What Is Health Security?": Perspectives From The 2016 Futures Fellows

Prior to the Futures Fellowship Training Institute (FFTI) in Amsterdam this week, the Fellows were posed the question, “What is health security?” The image above captures our Fellows’ main thoughts, but here are also some highlights from the riveting responses we received:

“Health security involves policies, strategies, agendas, and activities which minimize the susceptibility of public health threats such as pandemics, emerging infectious diseases, bioterrorism, disease outbreaks, malnutrition, and dual use research.” -Bilal Khan Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, Pakistan
“Health security is a collective effort to secure a world free from infectious diseases and other factors which are harmful to human health and life. To achieve this goal, all nations and international organizations must work in conjunction with each other.” -Saleha Hafeez
The Women University Multan, Punjab, Pakistan “Health security deals with addressing all the health issues of the public by implementing policies and preventive measures to eradicate these issues on a national and international level, whether it is an outbreak of some infectious disease or other risks posed by chemical/biological agents harmful to the natural environment and global health.” -Sadaf Ilyas University of the Punjab, Lahore, Pakistan
