HSP Partners With NIH, Islamabad, Trees Technologies To Bring Laboratory Information Management System To KPK Public Health Lab

In Pakistan, HSP partnered with the National Institute of Health, Islamabad (NIH) and Trees Technologies to deliver and commission a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) Public Health Lab at Khyber Medical College. Following installation, Trees Technologies also provided training to the staff so that they fully understood the capacity and how to use the system. They are now using this infrastructure to quickly report their COVID-19 testing results to the NIH in Islamabad, which enables Pakistan to better respond and contain COVID-19.

LIMS is hardware and software that records, manages, and stores diagnostic data. It improves the quality of data reporting by limiting user input error and makes transmission of data quick and efficient. LIMS are used for routine operations of the lab as well as for more unusual events like outbreak confirmatory testing. When COVID-19 is contained and the KPK Public Health Lab goes back to routine testing, it will be used to record and transmit data to NIH on antimicrobial resistance and emerging infectious diseases in KPK.
