Publication of Laboratory Waste Management Guidelines

Health Security Partners (HSP) is proud to announce the official release of the Laboratory Waste Management Guidelines, developed in collaboration with the Association for Biorisk Management - Pakistan and the Pakistan Biological Safety Association. Proper disposal and handling of hazardous biological, chemical, and infectious waste are vital for safeguarding healthcare workers, researchers, communities, and our environment. This comprehensive guideline provides a framework to empower laboratories, particularly in Pakistan, to adopt world-class waste minimization, containment, segregation, and disposal protocols.
 
Key Highlights of the Guidelines are:
  • Risk-Based Waste Management: Provides guidance on applying risk assessment frameworks to develop and implement effective waste management processes.
  • Occupational Health and Medical Surveillance: Provides guidance on occupational health requirements and medical surveillance for personnel involved throughout the waste management lifecycle, especially the housekeeping and janitorial staff.
  • Practical Checklists: Includes ready-to-use checklists at the end of each chapter to support a quick review of existing practices and help identify gaps and areas for improvement.
  • Veterinary Waste Management: Provides specific strategies and practical guidance for managing waste generated in veterinary facilities.
