Advancing Biosecurity: Building a Sustainable Framework for Brazil
Health Security Partners (HSP), in collaboration with the U.S. State Department's Biosecurity Engagement Program (BEP) and Brazilian Society for Biosafety and Biosecurity (SB3), hosted a two-day workshop on “Advancing Biosecurity: Building a Sustainable Framework for Brazil” from December 9-10, 2024 in Brasília, Brazil. Building on efforts that began in September 2024, this workshop brought together 10 stakeholders from across Brazil to develop a regulatory framework for biosecurity. National and international experts presented on topics including an overview of biosecurity topics, existing biosecurity frameworks, and risk assessments, and shared progress made since the September 2024 workshop. Participants actively engaged in discussions on identifying key priorities for governance, capacity building, and regulatory oversight; evaluating gaps and challenges in Brazil's biosecurity framework; and developing strategic actions to address risks, enhance monitoring, and propose regulatory pathways. HSP extends its gratitude to BEP, SB3, and the participants for their contributions to making this workshop a success!
