HSP and the National Biosafety Management Agency (NBMA) to Jointly Conduct the Biorisk Management Workshop for Life Science Research Institutions in Abuja, Nigeria

From August 22-23, 2022, Health Security Partners and the National Biosafety Management Agency (NBMA) will jointly conduct the Biorisk Management Workshop for Life Science Research Institutions in Abuja, Nigeria. The workshop audience includes individuals in high-level leadership positions at Nigerian veterinary and medical universities conducting life science research. The goal of the workshop is to engage these leaders on the importance of institutionalizing biorisk management (BRM) policies and practices when conducting biomedical research, with special emphasis on dual use research of concern (DURC). With guidance from HSP subject matter experts, participants will discuss BRM strategies and frameworks for universities to mitigate insider and outsider threats to prevent illicit access to weaponizable biological materials, expertise, and dual-use technologies. Following the training, HSP will provide mentoring and challenge grants to at least five select institutions to develop and implement BRM systems. HSP is looking forward to joining NBMA for this productive and crucial workshop.
