Strengthening Biorisk Management in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan Workshop
Health Security Partners (HSP), in collaboration with the U.S. State Department's Biosecurity Engagement Program (BEP) and the International Science and Technology Center (ISTC), hosted a 3-day workshop on "Strengthening Biorisk Management in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan" from 12-14 August 2024 in Almaty, Kazakhstan. The workshop brought together 30 stakeholders from public and private institutions across Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan. During the workshop, national and international subject matter experts presented on various topics related to the 8 pillars of biosecurity: management, biosecurity awareness, physical security, accountability for materials, information security, transport security, personnel reliability, and emergency response. Participants discussed gaps in biorisk management in their institutions and identified potential solutions for these gaps and challenges. HSP extends a thank you to BEP, ISTC, the speakers, and the participants for making this workshop a success. We look forward to continuing these efforts to improve biorisk management in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan!
